W’aria policewomen show their power

Female police officers show the men how it's done for Women's Month.

Female employees of the Westonaria Police took to the streets on Wednesday (19 August) to voice their concerns about the killing of officers and the abuse of women and children.

Not only did they compete in a 5km funwalk but held a road block the next day where they stopped and searched approximately 156 vehicles – this was all in aid of celebrating Women’s Month.

They held posters high in the air where the community could clearly see their message. After the long, tiring funwalk, they went back to the station where they were pleasantly surprised by their male co-workers. The male employees prepared food for the women.

The celebration continued on Thursday (20 August) where the women in blue in conjunction with women from the Westonaria Traffic Department held a roadblock along the R28.

This operation was a huge success as 156 vehicles were stopped and searched. One suspect was arrested for fraud; 13 people were issued traffic fines and two undocumented citizen’s were arrested. After this two hour operation, they visited a senior citizen’s home.

On Friday (21 August) they handed out clothes and food parcels to the identified underprivileged families in the community. These policewomen work in a male dominated environment and because of this they wanted to show the men they can do this and more without their help.

The men at Westonaria Police station was impressed and congratulated all the women and wished them a happy Women’s Month.
