Library shows the importance of educational toys and books

Children from Westonaria had fun at the library while learning and winning great prizes from MapStudio.

The value and benefit of educational toys and products for toddlers and children of all ages is immense.

This was proven again during the July school holiday with a very successful programme offered in partnership between Library Information Service Westonaria, Nali’bali and MapStudio.

It has become so easy to just turn the television on or to keep children busy by handing them a computer game to play.

It has been proven that educational toys and books stimulate their minds and imaginations to think independently.

These are the factors that will give them a head start in life.

The key is to keep the toys exciting and enticing so that they want to continue playing with them.

What is worse for a child than being bored?

Ashleigh Heese from Nali’bali said that Nali’bali wanted to share something that would inspire children to be more aware of our great continent and its place in the world.

Stories have the power to do this, but so do maps and globes.

That is why MapStudio, the leading publisher and distributor of maps, travel guides and adventure books in South Africa, has developed a range of educational products especially for the young ones.

“The Mapstudio gift bags are fun and lead to interactive play through learning, and engage children while educating them about the geography of the world.

LIS Westonaria is thankful to both companies taking such an interest in the development of our local youngsters,” says Righardt le Roux, Programme Librarian for the greater Westonaria.

The gift bags handed out to the lucky winners consisted of inflatable globes, playing cards, puzzles, educational packs, atlasses, and glow in the dark day/ night posters and LED inflatable globes.
