Head-on crash leaves one dead, one injured

'A light utility vehicle and motor vehicle were involved in the collision.'

A man lost his life while another man was injured during an accident at the intersection of Luipaard Street and Munsie Avenue in Krugersdorp on the West Rand on Thursday morning.

Exact detail surrounding the cause of the accident and preceding events are still unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson, Santi Steinmann, “Paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a light utility vehicle and motor vehicle were involved in a head-on collision. Both vehicles came to a standstill on the roadway, affecting traffic in all directions.

The Krugersdorp Fire Department had to make use of specialised equipment to extricate the deceased man, believed to be in his thirties, from the vehicle. Sadly the man had died due to the extensive injuries sustained during the crash and he was declared dead at the scene by members of the fire department.

“Upon assessment of the thirty-six-year-old driver from the light utility vehicle, paramedics found that the man had sustained serious injuries during the collision. The injured man was treated at the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.”
