Pedestrian critical in West Rand collision

'The driver failed to notice the pedestrian crossing the busy road.'

A man in his 30s was left critically injured after he was hit by a light motor vehicle on the R114, west of Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, “Paramedics arrived on scene and found the patient being treated by provincial services. Assessments showed the patient had sustained a serious head injury and was in a critical condition.

Treatment and advanced life support interventions was immediately performed on the patient to stabilise his vital signs. Once treated, the patient was airlifted to Johannesburg General Hospital by the ER24 Helicopter for further treatment.

“The driver of the light motor vehicle fortunately did not sustain any injuries. It is believed the driver failed to notice the pedestrian crossing the busy road.”

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
