Greenhills Estate under attack?

'Last week (end June/ beginning July) alone there were two robberies'

At least three residents of the Greenhills Estate voiced their concerns about constant break-ins allegedly happening in the complex.

Debbie van Dyk, Mashudu Singo and Dineo Makhamba all explained to the Herald what happened to them personally and how they live in fear. All of them live in the Eleemon section of the estate.

Singo claimed she not only was robbed last December but also was stabbed by one of the two robbers. They allegedly stole electronic devices. One of the security guards allegedly was shot in a separate incident.

The residents said these robbers were armed and they normally rob houses in groups of three to five.

Makhamba said, “At the end of June to the beginning of July there were two robberies.”

The residents further claimed in the past criminals used to break in in the early hours of the morning on weekdays but now they operate it at any time.

This is not normal. We can not even go to the shopping mall in peace because we are always fearful that on our return we will find our houses burgled,” Makhamba added.

The residents believe the intruders enter the property by jumping the electric fence, which they said does not function properly at all times. They believe criminals are watching their every move and somehow get help from the inside.

Another concerned resident added her dogs allegedly had been poisoned twice.

They told the Herald one security company helps to secure these premises and they have installed several alarms in their homes to help secure them.

The police allegedly had visited the estate on several occasions but residents said they need feedback on this matter – they need to know that these incidents are being investigated.

The Herald is awaiting comment from the Randfontein Police to confirm these burglaries.
