Burglar gets 10 years in prison

Randfontein constables' determination puts burglar behind bars.

Two constables from the Randfontein Police put a burglar behind bars after he committed the crime on 6 November 2012.

A 65-year-old resident of Homelake reported a housebreaking in which her jewellery, television and other items were stolen. Shortly after the incident the suspect was apprehended and was found in possession of the stolen jewellery.

The suspect was charged and appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court.

The case was initially allocated to Constable Nkwe, who did the investigation. The case was later prepared for court by Constable Simelane who secured the sentence. The burglar, Freddy Miyeza, 36, was found guilty on housebreaking and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on 18 May.

Public Prosecutor, Adele Britz was prosecuting on behalf of the state and Magistrate de la Rey presided.

The Station Commander and Management of the Randfontein SAPS congratulated the National Prosecuting Authority and the two members for their determination and commitment in securing the sentence.
