R’fontein rages in a cage

SA Shidokan title slips through R'fontein's fingers.

The Mile High Shidokan and Kickboxing Club gym was filled to the rafters with spectators coming from far and wide to witness the annual Rage in a Cage tournament over the weekend.

Shidokan, Mauy Thai, Shidokan kickboxing, and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) were represented at the tournament. The youngest competitor was but 5-years-old and the eldest among those who fought was 43, however, all could hold their own in the cage.

Randfontein’s very own Gomza Rakwena fought against Malibongwe Magubane. During the first few blows traded between the two fighters, it seemed as though they were equally matched but not before Rakwena began to dominate with his impressive speed and power.

Magubane fell to the floor as a result of a low kick. The second round came and Rakwena ended the match with a technical knockout. As a result of Rakwena’s win, he will be competing in Cape Town once again in another competition.

At the end of the match, a very chuffed Mark Hey, Rawena’s coach, asked the Herald “So, what do you think of my boy?”

The headline fight was a fight for the South African Shidokan belt. Ceeh Khuboni from Durban was defending his title from Andries Swanepoel from Randfontein.

Fighters and spectators gathered to watch the much anticipated match. Randfontein supporters were there in all their numbers but unfortunately for them, the fight was over in a flash as Khuboni desperately tried to get the match over as quick as possible. Blood poured from Swanepoel’s nose and eye. The match was ended on a TKO.
