Teen, 14, arrested with 68 other suspects

'No one is above the law' — Police.

The Krugersdorp police cluster which now includes Randfontein has had 69 arrests over the past weekend.

The youngest suspect arrested in the cluster was as young as 14. This 14-year-old suspect was arrested along with 12 other suspects for being in possession of drugs. The suspects ages range from 14 to 35-years-old.

“The majority of the arrests that were made were for cases such as assault, theft, housebreaking and possession of drugs,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

“The police in the Krugersdorp Cluster clamped on motorists who were driving under the influence of liquor. 10 intoxicated motorists were arrested during the period.”

The other arrests that were made were for illegal mining, possession of copper cables, and selling of counterfeit DVDs.

“The Cluster Commander, Major General Mateisi expressed her concern regarding motorists that are intoxicated while operating motor vehicles. She assures residents that the police will work hand in hand with the local authorities to curb this crime. She further indicated that the South African Police Service in the Krugersdorp Cluster is proactive in combating crime and that no one is above the law,” Ernst concluded.
