Town’s streets are full of it …

Sewage spills reported across town.

When walking in Randfontein it is a case of step in gently.

This after the Herald was notified of two sewage spill incidents across town on Wednesday.

This morning at about 8.00am the Herald was informed by a Mapogo Security patroller of a sewage spill on Greenhills avenue.

After investigating the Herald found sewage spillage and water running over the road.

Mapogo Security mentioned this has been going on for two days and up to that point nothing was done about it.

Later in the day the Herald was informed of another sewage spill incident on the corner of Jan Fiskaal and Van Der Stel street in Culemborg Park – something that has been bugging residents for the last five days.

DA councillor Graig Harrison commented that this matter has been reported to the involved parties and that they do take note of the situation.

Considering the above, sewage spills are more than just an ugly sight as it is hazardous to your health.

Sewage and waste-water contain bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses that can cause intestinal lung and other infections. Bacteria may cause diarrhea, fever, cramps and sometimes vomiting, headaches and weakness. Some bacteria and disease carried by sewage and waste-water are E.coli, shigellosis, typhoid fever, salmonella and cholera.
