Knitting away at 89

Age just a number for this Vriendskaptuiste resident.

Laura Blake, a resident at Vriendskaptuiste continues to knit effortlessly at the age of 89.

She started knitting when she was nine years old and today this keeps her occupied.

She says that you need to keep busy and this adds quality to your life. She proudly finished a blanket that took her three months to knit and explained that the small detail is the reason why it is time consuming.

Blake started off using matchsticks as a child then nails and now needles. She knits blankets, jerseys and now continues to do so for her grandchildren. She starts knitting at about 9am, then after a break continues to knit until 4pm.

She has had various residents visiting her, wanting to catch a glimpse at her knit work. When asked what her motto in life is, she said she believes you need to be a friendly and helpful person.
