Gomza, the new kid on the block

Another young kickboxing champ from Randfontein emerges.

Randfontein has its very own South African Junior K-1 kickboxing title holder who accomplished this incredible feat after a mere year in the sport.

Gomolemo ‘Gomza’ Rakwena, 18, a matriculant at Randfontein High School (RHS) holds the title.

Gomza is relatively new in the sport and has only about a year’s experience in the ring but managed to get such a prestigious title so early in his career.

He qualified to represent Western Gauteng at the national championships after winning the South African Kickboxing Association (SAKA) championship in Pretoria at the end of March. On Sunday (3 May) he won the title of South African Junior K-1 kickboxing champion in Cape Town.

The win automatically places him in the national kickboxing team for next year’s Amateur World Championship in Europe if finances permit it.

Gomza trains at the Fitstop Gym in Greenhills under professional fighter and coach, Neo Petlele. Both are overseen by international trainer and manager, Mark Hey of the HeySports world championship team.

The HeySports team often features world, African and South African professional kickboxing champion, Nkosinathi ‘Tiger’ Ximba.
