Friends robbed at gunpoint at train station

Police urged commuters to be vigilant at public transport collection points.

Police urges commuters who make use of public transport to be vigilant after a 27-year-old woman and her friend had become victims of an armed robbery at the Homelake train station one Friday morning.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, “In the early hours of Friday 8 May the two friends allegedly were entering the train station when an unknown red vehicle stopped next to them.

“An unknown male alighted from the vehicle, wielding a firearm. He allegedly pointed the firearm at them and demanded their valuables. He took cash and other valuables from the two friends and drove off.

“We urge commuters to be vigilant at public transport collection points, especially when approaching these collection points.”

Warrant Officer Bongani Mpete is investigating the case and urges any witnesses to contact him to help trace and arrest the suspect.
