Combined efforts stop criminal in his tracks

Residents, security company and police work together to nab suspected burglar.

Randfontein Police managed to arrest one of two suspects for allegedly intending to commit housebreaking in Culemborg Park.

This thanks to community members and a security company cooperating with police.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed, “On a Saturday night around midnight two weeks ago police were called out to a scene of trespassing. There they found a 38-year-old man who was apprehended in the yard of a residence in the area. They were informed the resident heard a noise outside and upon investigation saw two men hiding in his garden.

“The neighbour was alerted and a security company responded to the scene. The security company members were able to arrest one of the men. A bag filled with items that could be used for housebreaking was found in this suspect’s possession. The second suspect allegedly managed to run away before he could be apprehended.”

Police are investigating a case of possession of housebreaking implements.

The 38-year-old suspect appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday 11 May on these charges.

Acting station commander Colonel Marius Smit congratulated the community members and the security company employees for their efforts to keep Randfontein safe.
