Farmers called to work together

'Reduce much talk, and have more action' — District Mayor.

The West Rand District Executive Mayor, Alderman Mpho Nawa engaged with farmers in the West Rand to give farmers a platform to voice the challenges they face and how the government can intervene.

The district council chamber was packed full of more than 50 farmers eager to let their voice be heard.

The first to present was Tommy Mohajane from the Gauteng IDC Nguni Cattle who called out to other farmers to end xenophobia as South Africans are part of Africa just as they are part of Africa.

One of the highlights in Nawa’s address was that there is a need to reduce much talk and have more action. It was said that the West Rand Municipalities as an agricultural and Green Economic Corridor should work closer with farmers and aid with the production and processing of food.

According to Dennis Mangope, spokesperson for the West Rand District Mayor, “This engagement with the West Rand farmers is in line with Gauteng’s Ten Pillar Programme of transformation, modernisation, and reindustrialisation.”

Dennis Thabe, MMC for Local Economic Development in the West Rand urged farmers to stand together and work as a collective.
