Cable theft continues

Cable theft this time leaves streets in Greenhills powerless.

Owl Street residents were rattled after robbers stole electrical cables in their street, leaving them without electricity during the early hours of Monday.

“Everything was dark, we knew it wasn’t load shedding because the lights at the end of the street were still on,” said Mias Raubenheimer resident of Kwartel Street, “we immediately contacted emergency services.”

It has been alleged EPR armed response investigated the reported incidents and discovered that electric cables were stolen.

The residents had an opportunity to take a photo of the vehicle registration number before the robbers drove off.

According to residents, there were failed house robberies nearby of which they suspect these two incidents were connected.

Randfontein Local Municipality electrical workers were called out and they replaced the cables. They were forced to cut the branches of old trees as the cables ran right through them.

Residents in Kwartel and Owl Streets experienced power failure as a result of this incident.
