‘Substation not cleaned in years’

Unkempt substation finally cleaned up.

Lynn Nicholls, a resident in the area approached the herald about an unkempt substation on the corner of Van Deventer and Market Streets, claiming it hasn’t been cleaned in years.

Arriving at the scene with municipal workers the herald discovered the substation indeed was littered with rubbish, weeds and broken-off branches. Now the substation finally has been cleaned up.

“Someone once got so fed up with the state of the substation that she cut off some of the branches to prevent the wind from moving them and damaging the substation,” Lynn said.

Lynn called the Randfontein Local Municipality about the state of the substation. A few days later two municipal workers were at the substation cleaning up.

Ezekiel Molako, Randfontein Parks employee said they were there to collect the broken off branches and would cut the rest of the trees the following day, which they did.

According to Lucky Chiya, spokesperson for the Randfontein Executive Mayor, “In these cases, residents are urged to approach the ward councillor of the area first. If they do not respond or you are not satisfied with their answer, approach the relevant department at the Randfontein Local Municipality.”

The number for the Randfontein Local Municipality during officer hours is 011 411 0000.
