Hitchhikers targeted: Hot spot identified

Westonaria Police issued a warning to hitchhikers about a robbery hot spot at the N12/R28 four-way stop intersection.

People are warned to be cautious when hitchhiking on the N12 and R28 as it is believed that two or three suspects are targeting people in the area.

They allegedly carry knives and rob people of valuable possessions such as laptops, cellphones and bags with clothing.

On one occasion, a man was robbed and wounded fatally.

Police are working around the clock to catch these criminals. Anyone with more information that could lead to these criminals being apprehended is requested to contact the Westonaria Police on 011 278 5300.
