Residents from Randfontein have come forward regarding fines and the R28, most specifically, receiving fines from the Mogale City Traffic Department.
One of the complainants said “Is it legal for them [Mogale City] to bill me for a fine I have received in Randfontein?”
The answer to the question is yes, they can indeed fine residents of Randfontein while driving on the R28 because a section of the R28 is shared by both Randfontein and Mogale City.
Technically, the fines being received may seem like it is in Randfontein but is actually in Mogale City.
To clear up the border issue, spokesperson for the Randfontein Executive Mayor, Lucky Chiya stated, “The border separating Randfontein and Mogale City is just after Uncle Harry’s.”
In fact, there is a sign that upon exiting says, “Thank you for visiting Randfontein” and upon entering it says, “Welcome to Randfontein.”
