A draw for undefeated SU9s

Rain ends match in a draw.

It wasn’t what they wanted but Randfontein Cricket Club’s undefeated Sunday 9 junior team will be happy with a draw against Orange Farms from Johannesburg South over the weekend.

Going into this game the locals showed some pretty good form having won five games on the trot.

Playing at home Randfontein won the toss and elected to bat first.

“We were very optimistic going into the game and wanted to put up a descent target for Orange farms,” coach Clint Kruger said.

The Orange Farm bowlers were not going to allow that to happen and managed to bowl Randfontein out for only 111 runs. Randfontein’s top batsman of the day was Hugo Scott with 24 runs followed by Regard Lubbe (22 runs) and Michael Kruger (15).

Randfontein wasn’t discouraged though and knew they had to get a few early wickets to defend their low score.

They managed to keep Orange Farms’ run rate on par with theirs before play was abandoned due to rain. Orange Farms managed to get 40 runs with two wickets down before the rain ended the game and the match declared a draw.

Top bowlers for Randfontein was Werner Pretorius who took one wicket for 5 runs in his two overs and Michael Kruger (one wicket for 18 runs in his 4 overs).
