Gate motor thieves caught

Case remanded to a further date.

Two men aged 34 and 25 who were arrested last month for being in possession of a stolen motor gate will appear in court again.

“The two men were caught in possession of the stolen property during a routine stop the day before Christmas.

“The men could not give an acceptable explanation for having it in their possession. After some investigation it was discovered the gate motor was stolen in Krugersdorp earlier.

“The men appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court late last month when their case was remanded,” Randfontein Police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst said.

Colonel Marius Smit, acting station commander for the Randfontein Police urges electric gate owners to put a unique mark on their motors for identification purposes in the event of theft.

“Take note that receiving any stolen property is a criminal offence; persons found in possession of stolen property will face criminal charges. Refrain from buying stolen property and report any such possessions to the police on 086 010 111,” Ernst added.
