Computer thief still on the run after 5 months

Police have launched a manhunt for a man believed to be responsible for the theft of computer equipment worth thousands of Rands more than five months ago.

Randfontein police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst on Wednesday released an image of the suspected thief caught on CCTV footage.

“On Monday, 21 July this year at about 3pm a suspect entered a business premises in Helikonpark in Randfontein and allegedly leaving with computer equipment to the value of approximately R30 000.

“It is alleged that the suspect entered the premises on the ruse to use a bathroom and went into an office stealing the equipment.

“Close circuit video footage indicates that the suspect is approximately 20 to 30 years old with a slender built. At the time of the incident he was wearing a reddish tracksuit top and jeans. The stolen equipment was placed in a backpack and the suspect left the scene. The theft was only discovered later.”

The investigating officer, Sergeant Kgomotso Mekgwe requests any person who might be able to identify the suspect, to please contact him on 011 278 8100.
