Connie Mulder Centre gets early Christmas present

... and urges residents not to abandon family members and children during the festive season.

The Connie Mulder Centre gave thanks to its sponsors on Tuesday (25 November) and in return received a R14 000 cheque from Tony’s Meat Market.

The Connie Mulder Centre is a home for the aged who have been abandoned as well as people with mental and physical disabilities.

According to Gordon Hennie, head of the Connie Mulder Centre, “Tony’s Meat Market originally started working with the centre more than seven years ago.

“They introduced regular wine tasting. The event had to be cancelled as the wine tasting went down too well with some of the residents,” Hennie added humorously.

He continued to say that a golf day was put in place of the wine tasting evening that is sponsored by Tony’s Meat Market.

“They are one of our big sponsors who give more regularly,” Hennie said.

The event was held in the Connie Mulder Centre lapa where guests were met with cocktails with straws at the door after stepping inside and out of the pouring rain.

After a speech from Bea Botha, chairperson of the Connie Mulder Centre and the handing over of a cheque as well as a few words from Hennie, guests could dig in to a feast of food that included dessert.

In her speech Botha stated that there are cases in the centre where people are left destitute. She urged parents and family members of the residents at Connie Mulder not to abandon their family members and children during the festive season.

The food was prepared with the intention of saying thank you to the centre’s sponsors for their hard work and dedication.
