Culemborg murder case postponed

Culemborg Park murder accused applies for bail.

On the weekend of the 4 October, 57-year-old Rina du Plessis was found dead in her flat in Culemborg Park.

Police have since found that she was murdered and have apprehended the suspect. Police have confirmed that the suspect is a 35-year-old male and cannot give any further information on the accused until the court have made a ruling. The herald was told the same upon visiting the court.

After the accused appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court court on 13 October and having the court date remanded until the 22 October; the date has subsequently been postponed to 29 October. The postponement is as a result of an application for bail.

The current information available is that the suspect is accused of murdering Rina du Plessis in her home earlier this month. It has been speculated that the murder accused was known by the victim.

Furthermore, this would serve to be the second murder known to the herald just this October.

The last murder had similar circumstances in that the victim was also a female found dead and was murdered by a man in his 30s. Noting, however, that the accused were different in both cases. This could point to a trend in violence against women or murder in general.
