New app for emergencies

A new smartphone application was introduced for the community.

A new smartphone application that will empower the community was introduced at a recent Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting.

The new smartphone application, Community Watch, has been adopted by the CPF and radically will improve response, communication and alert among residents of Randfontein.

According to the director of AOM who markets this application, Warren Anderson, Community Watch can be downloaded onto any smartphone and not only will make you as user feel safer, it also will put personal safety at your fingertips.

Community Watch can be downloaded from Google Play and iStore.

“Once you have downloaded this application on your smartphone, you can register four and more contacts on your account. This means you pay a monthly subscription for your device, but can ensure the safety of your whole family,” says Anderson.

The aim with Community Watch is to empower the community and ensure their safety.

The application has various unique features such as a panic button and ‘follow me home’ service.

“All you have to do when you are in trouble is press the panic button and the application will notify your local CPF, police, security companies and even personal contacts on your application,” says Anderson.

He adds that the application also will broadcast your GPS coordinates to the relevant contacts so they can find your location rapidly and help you.

“Whether you are being hijacked, robbed, involved in an accident or just need some security the app will inform law enforcement and loved ones where you are just by pushing one button,” says Anderson.

He explains that Community Watch is merely a tool that will be used to ensure a safer community.

With the help of Community Watch, police, CPF and security companies will be notified whenever you are in danger.

  1. I have downloaded and tested the app and the functions are exceptional: the features include a panic, remote panic, fields to record suspicious activities under various categories and a library to load images of your own household, vehicles and employees to ease identification of a possible impersonations or unfamiliar vehicles in your premises. Personal medical emergency info can also be recorded. The app is also available to existing security companies who would add this service as an additional benefit to their clients and where a conventional alarm system cannot be afforded. The more people and companies sign up, the better for the whole community. The developers said in a meeting that their aim is to give everyone in South Africa access to a panic button… well done!
