Pensioner and gardener attacked

The victims were busy in the garden when two armed men suddenly approached them.

A man has been arrested following a house robbery incident in Greenhills recently. He and his accomplice allegedly attacked and robbed a 76-year-old pensioner and her gardener while they were busy in the garden.

Randfontein police spokesperson Appel Ernst says, “We believe the pensioner and her gardener were busy in the garden when they were surprised by two armed suspects. They demanded money and took whatever money was in the house.

“Shortly thereafter one of them forced the pensioner to hand over her bank card and also required the pin code,” says Ernst. She adds that one of the suspects went to the bank to clean out the pensioner’s bank account while the second suspect remained with the victims.

“The suspect returned after having withdrawn the woman’s money. He and his accomplice then ensued to further ransack the house prior to fleeing from the scene with electronic equipment and cellphones,” says Ernst.

According to her both the victims sustained minor injuries during the attack and one of them was able to identify one of the suspects who then was arrested

Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker is investigating the case and can be reached on 011 278 8100.
