Graveyard thieves arrested
Police arrested five men for being in possession of metal items from the Mohlakeng cemetery.
Five men suspected of stripping metal from graves have been arrested.
According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Appel Ernst, “Members were patrolling the Mohlakeng area when they were approached by people at the cemetery who alleged that they saw suspicious men removing things from graves in the cemetery.
“Our officers acted on this information and were able to find the suspects. The men, aged between 17 and 24 were then searched and the metal items were found in their possession,” says Ernst.
She adds that the suspects were arrested and detained at the Randfontein Police Station.
The suspects already appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court where their case was postponed.
