De Voest retires

South African to focus his energy on his family and other disciplines.

South African tennis player Rik De Voest has retired from tournament tennis after 16 years on the ATP circuit.

After becoming a regualr in the team for more than 12 years, De Voest in April announced his retirement from Davis Cup competition following South Africa’s 3-2 Euro-Africa Group Two Davis Cup defeat against Lithuania.

He has now officially retired and has decided to focus his energy on his family and other disciplines.

“I have been lucky enough to experience so many dreams, memories and achievements coming true,” said the 34-year-old De Voest.

“Now, after giving the matter a great deal of thought, I have decided to call it a day and direct my energies and future in other directions.”
