Illegal dumper caught on camera

Person spotted offloading trailer full of rubbish at Greenhills cemetery.

The Randfontein Local Municipality is considering taking action against the person caught red-handed dumping rubbish at an illegal dumping site near the Greenhills cemetery this past weekend.

It’s said further that the act has already been exposed on social media.

According to a local resident and business owner “I was driving past the area at around 2pm when I came across the incident.

“I was driving past minding my own business when I spotted a Chevrolet car offloading a trailer full of rubbish at the dumping site. I just couldn’t believe it so I took out my phone and decided to capture him on camera.”

The man tells the Herald that he has since submitted the image to the Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) and says that the picture has since made the rounds on social media platforms.

“Although I do not know the person’s name, it is better to have some kind of proof that can be submitted to the relevant authorities and that’s one step forward in stopping such things. We are really fed up with illegal dumping and if we want any change, it has to start with us,” the businessman says.

The Herald has spoken to Randfontein Local Municipality head of communications Phillip Montshiwa who says that such actions are appreciated by the municipality.

“Illegal dumping has been a challenge for us as the municipality and we have always called on residents to step in and assist us in fighting it. We are glad to see that people are indeed responding to such calls and this shows that working together we can do more,” says Montshiwa.

He added “The municipality will be investigating the incident.”
