Baxter happy with Amakhosi win

"It was a good workout."

Kaizer Chiefs boss Stuart Baxter says he was happy with his side’s effort in their 4-2 win over Chippa United in a friendly match on Sunday.

Amakhosi were put under pressure in the first half when Chippa took the lead with just ten minutes the clock, but a rallied effort with goals from Kinsgton Nkhatha, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Tefu Mashamaite and George Maluleka saw them bounce back for a win.

The match was just the start of a series of pre-season outings and the English coach believes it was a good test ahead of next week’s Carling Black Cup tie against Orlando Pirates.

“It was a good workout,” Baxter said after the game.

“It was a good game of football, especially in the first half, it got a bit scruffy in the second half, we tried a different formation, we played with a diamond midfield and it helped us to stop them playing through us, but we lost a little bit of our width.

“But the players worked very hard, some good signs, some things we going to have to correct, but it was a good day’s work.”
