Destined for the SA limelight

Local girl Monique Jordaan, 19, a finalist in Apprentesses of Angelique Gerber competition.

Ten years ago Monique Jordaan performed an Avril Lavigne song in front of the mirror – on 19 July she got her first shot to becoming a star.

Jordaan was chosen as one of the finalists  in the glamorous Apprentesses of Angelique  Gerber competition. The Grand Finale was  held at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria this  past weekend.

Gerber is known as a woman of many talents and is famously known for her role as  actress in 7de Laan as Clara and presenter in  Boer Soek ‘n Vrou on kykNET.

Gerber started the Apprentesses competition looking for the ultimate high-value woman. The winner of the competition not only walked away with an amazing prize, but also  will step into the South African limelight. Gerber said on her website: “We are looking for an aspiring socialite, determined and willing to work hard for a chance of a career in the entertainment industry”.

Following her participation Jordaan was as cool, calm and collected saying “I’m very excited. I believe in personal growth and evolving myself as a brand. This competition gave me the opportunity to do that.

“For me it was not about winning but about  knowing that I had given everything. This is  only the start, my journey has only begun.

“God is within, and he has bigger plans for  me, I know I gave my best and when you do, you’ve already won so much more than any title can provide you.”

Jordaan hails from Helikon Park, is a teacher at Ruimsig Nursery School, a vegetarian  and a ‘proudly Randfontein’ girl. She further  describes herself as different and adds, “I am  myself, that is the one thing no one ever can  take away from me.”

Her ultimate goal in life is to act in a movie  alongside Angelina Jolie, to go on tour with Radiohead and to have younger girls look up  to her the way she looks up to her role models  namely Angelina, Charlize Theron and Nicole  Kidman.

“I want to be famous to give back.  Angelina is not just a well-known person making a success as an actress, she is also a United Nations ambassador, feeding children in Africa in her free time.”
