Mandawe up for Kamanga challenge

Mandawe the test that the fans and critics want to see.

Exciting young boxer Paul Kamanga faces a tough test against Boitshepo Mandawe for the vacant WBA Pan African junior welterweight title at Emperors Palace near Kempton Park on Tuesday night.

Kamanga, 20, hails from the Democratic Republic of the Congo but fights out of Anton Gilmore’s Rosettenville gym in Johannesburg. He made his professional debut at Emperors Palace on July 9, 2012, when he stopped Sibusiso Masilela in the fourth round.

Two years later he is undefeated and boasts impressive wins over Irvin Buhlalu and Adam de Moor on his CV.

But Mandawe may provide the test that the fans and critics want to see. He has won ten of his 17 fights inside the distance and has lost only three.

The 22-year-old from Meadowlands in Soweto has been a professional since June 2007 and has challenged for the SA welterweight title three times.

The box-and-dine tournament is presented by Jeff Ellis of African Ring in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions.
