Residents of Westonaria attack Gauteng Premier

Premier’s State of the Province address questioned.

Newly appointed Gauteng Premier David Makhura has come under fire by residents of Westonaria following his State of the Province Address (SOPA) held at the end of last week.

This was during a SOPA live broadcast session held at the Westonaria Local Municipality banquet hall on Friday 27 June. Makhura’s actual speech was delivered at the Thokoza auditorium in Ekurhuleni.

During this time, Makhura spoke about radical socio-economic transformation and implementing the Reconstructive and Development Programme (RDP) among other pertinent issues.

After the herald spoke to some local residents of Westonaria, it seems the speech contained nothing new and rather empty promises.

“I was really not impressed with the premier’s address because it lacked concrete information,” resident Mbulelo Konyane said.

“I feel that it was full of empty promises which will never materialize just like those in the president’s State of the Nation Address (SONA). As it stands, he (Makhura) did not discuss the issue of Bekkersdal despite the community outrage that saw residents protesting for months on end” he continued.

Konyane added this shows that their concerns are not taken seriously and that residents of the area are still waiting for the Westonaria Local Municipality to be placed under administration by the powers that be.

According to Konyane, officials are still dragging their feet where this is concerned.

  1. Are you sure that the name of the resident in the above picture is correct? Because I know that lady very well and her name is not Mbulelo Konyane.

The other thing in the picture caption you refer to Mbulelo Konyane as her then in the paragraph where you’ve quoted “her” you refer to “her” as a “he” so which one is it?
