Sewage causes a stinking mess

The sewage flows outside the Herald's offices and outside a local butchery's premises as well.

A near-permanent sewerage leak on Kenneth Road has sparked outrage from residents of the area.

The leak seems to be emanating from two sewerage drains on Kenneth Road and allegedly has something to do with the block of flats above the well-known Da Vinci’s restaurant on Kenneth Road since the sewerage leak either runs from the drain in front of the complex, or from another drain situated approximately 100 meters down the road.

Pedestrians walking along Kenneth Road are no strangers to getting a face full of the foul-smelling splatter from passing cars and local businesses are fed-up with the smell.

One of the businesses that are affected is the Meat Zone butchery in Greenhills Circle.

According to butchery owner Micheal de Vasconcelos, the stinking mess in the street outside his business is definitely having a negative effect.

“Who wants to buy meat in this mess with this foul smell hanging around here?

“Of course this is bad for business.

“We have tried to get the municipality to fix this mess, and generally they come out and fix it, but it only lasts for a week or so before we have to call them again.”

According to one source within the municipality the problem emanates from both the block of flats as well as the three restaurants in the shopping centre, which disposes of oil and grease in the drains, causing the drains to block.

The herald has approached the municipality for clarification on this issue.
