RHS puts Randfontein on the map again

This after they came out tops at three dramatic arts festivals and scooped numerous award.

Randfontein High School‘s dramatic arts group was the winner of the One Act Play Festival with their remarkable play titled The league of extraordinary boys recently.

According to the school’s representative Jason Fischer, the competition was held throughout three drama festivals namely the Festival of Exellence in Dramatic Arts (FEDA), Repertory Amateur Players Society (RAPS) and Edenvale Acting and Drama Society (EADS).

“The play deals with the horrors of gang culture and juvenile detention among the youth,” says Fischer.

“Not only did the adjudicators love it, but we had excellent responses from the cowds as well.”

The school’s drama troupe competed against 50 public and private schools from the Gauteng area to take the win.

Multi- award winning actress, writer and theatre director Sylvaine Strike commented that the caliber of acting was unlike anything she had seen from a school play and recommended that the play should be seen by people all over South Africa.

“Two of our actors Cantona James and Antonio Martin, were awarded with trophies for the best actor and best supporting actor respectively.

“In addition to this, the play was showered with other awards such as best sound, best lighting, best original script and best ensemble to name but a few.

“We are very proud of these achievements and we feel that the group went above and beyond in committing themselves to maintain a culture of dramatic excellence for our school” says Fischer.

The group was also offered a professional run on the Space.com stage at the Joburg Theatre complex from 18 and 19 July.
