Police make 30 drug arrests in one day

More than 30 drug related arrests were made throughout Randfontein.

More than 30 people were caught and arrested for being in possession of and for dealing in drugs.

The arrests were made during a massive 12-hour crime prevention operation in the Randfontein CBD.

More than 100 police officers from different police stations in Gauteng took part in the operation.

Besides for the SAPS, other departments, like the West Rand Department of Safety and Security and the Randfontein Traffic Department also took part in the operation.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Appel Ernst, police officers from as far as Pretoria and Soweto as well as other parts of Gauteng assisted in the massive operation.

“We took to the streets and raided local business premises and conducted stop and searches throughout town,” says Ernst.

“Numerous people were arrested for different kinds of crimes ranging from being in possession of drugs to being in possession of stolen property, being in contravention with the Liquor Act, and public intoxication.”

Ernst adds that Randfontein SAPS acting station commander Colonel Marius Smit was satisfied with the outcome of the operation.
