Suspicious activities at local cemetery?

Flowers went missing from a grave and the sand there was disturbed.

Suspicious activities are apparently happening at the Greenhills cemetery.

This is according to Dwarskloof resident Simon Barkhuizen who suspects that someone has tampered with his late mother’s grave.

“I visited my mother’s grave last week Sunday (8 June) to put fresh flowers on her grave and at that point everything was in tact.

“On my latest visit which was on Monday, I found that the flowers I had left were missing from the grave and the sand over her grave was disturbed.

“I don’t know how this happened but I suspect that people are tampering with graves in the vicinity and that’s a cause for concern,” says Barkhuizen.

He adds that he does not want to jump to conclusions and speculate about what has happened but says that where there is smoke, there is usually fire.

He has since called for the Randfontein Local Municipality to implement effective security within the premises.

The Herald has spoken to the Randfontein Local Municipality head of communications Phillip Monsthiwa who says that the municipality will investigate the allegations.

“I will consult with the relevant department within the municipality and we will look into the man’s allegations.

“On the issue of security, the municipality wants to propose that the Community Policing Forums (CPF) in Randfontein start patrolling graveyards as well to ensure safety at all times and combat the issue of alleged vandalism happening there,”says Montshiwa.
