Thalia Robertson is passionate about teaching and has helped start two libraries on the West Rand.

Randfontein resident Thalia Robertson was honoured for 56 years of teaching by the National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa).

This was during a ceremony at Park Town Girls High School.

The Herald caught up with Robertson to find out how she feels about the recognition she received for her dedication to her craft.

“I have always loved teaching and cannot see myself doing anything else,

“I am very honoured to know that there are people out there who appreciate my efforts.

“I couldn’t believe my ears when they called me up to the stage to honour me.

“Everybody gave me a standing ovation and I felt so loved and appreciated,” says Robertson.

Robertson has been teaching for 56 years and in those years, she spent 45 years in the classroom teaching children from grade 1 to grade 7.

She also spent a number of years teaching children at pre-primary level and has taught in numerous schools in Randfontein.

Robertson also set up two libraries in Randfontein and Krugersdorp.

According to her grand daughter Kenndra Robertson, Thalia is currently teaching at Krugersdorp Town School.

She describes her grandmother as a warm and loving person.

“She is a blessing to children and she is an absolute angel

“She has a passion for what she does and she can’t wait to get to work every morning.

“Whether rain or shine she is always at work. I can barely remember the last time she took a sick day.”
