Shoplifter gets 15 years behind bars

The man stole clothing items worth R570. He was identified as a repeat offender and is said to have been in conflict with the law since 1991.

A local man has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars for shoplifting clothing items worth R570 at a retail store at Village Square Mall.

Magistrate Ettienne van Niekerk also announced that he would serve the sentence without an option of parole.

This due to the fact that the man has been identified as a repeat offender.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Appel Ernst, during investigations, warrant officer Karlien Coombe discovered that the man had been in frequent conflict with the law since 1991 and was known for his tendency to steal.

“We are happy with the sentence handed down and we feel that firm action against criminal elements and offenders is the only way to stop crime effectively.”
