Public safety roadshow a huge success

The Randfontein Public Safety Department staged a successful roadshow for children.

The Department of Public Safety within the West Rand District Municipality hosted a successful awareness campaign at the Greenhills Stadium on 28 March.

This was in conjunction with other stakeholders namely the Provincial Forensic Patholoy Services and the Public Information Educational Relations among others.

According to Public Safety Regional Commander Bennie Mohlabeng, over 200 children attended the event and says that he is thrilled with the turnout.

“The aim of the event was to address issues of public safety and safety in general among children from the age of 4-years and above and we were able to do that effectively.

“We had numerous representatives from different institutions who taught them how to perform the basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to escape fire and cope in other life threatening situations they may come across,”

“We had a presentation on how to act when caught up in emergency circumstances as well as who to call when faced with an emergency,” says Mohlabeng, who is confident that despite the children wanting to run around the whole time, they went home having grasped something educational.

Those at the event were also given educational pamphlets.
