ANC to take action against ANC gunman

ANC gunman Nelson Mdayi is a former councilor and an employeed in the office of the speaker at the Westonaria Local Municipality. He was caught carrying a firearm during the violent protest actions in Bekkersdal.

The ANC is set to take disciplinary action against the ANC gunman (Nelson Mdayi) who was caught carrying a fire arm during the violent protest actions in Bekkersdal on 13 March after the party’s door-to-door campaign had gone wrong.

This comes after his image was published in the Citizen newspaper and later went on social media where his intentions with the firearm were questioned.

According to ANC Gauteng spokesperson Nkeke Kekana, the party’s provincial integrity committee would investigate the matter.

“The ANC will institute disciplinary action against Mdayi for bringing the organization into disrepute by carrying a firearm while on the campaign trail.

“His actions have undermined the ANC’s integrity and its public image,” says Kekana who adds that the ANC does not approve of the use of weapons during election campaigns.

Mdayi is a former councilor and an employee at the office of the speaker within the Westonaria Local Municipality.

He is also a resident of Bekkersdal.

Residents of the area said that the ANC should not be campaigning for votes in their township because Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane had called their votes ‘dirty’ votes late last year.

They have since called for her to apologize.

Meanwhile, DA Gauteng Premier candidate Mmusi Maimane and the leaders of the Greater Westonaria Concerned Residents Association have laid criminal charges against the ANC and Mdayi.
