Traffic Department slammed by former director

Supervision has apperently gone to the dogs at the department as traffic officers allegedly do as they please.

The Randfontein Traffic Department has come under fire from former department director Ronnie Molao after his contract came to and end and was not not renewed.

“The Randfontein Traffic Department is currently in shambles and no one can fix it,” says Molao.

“There is simply no command or control in that department and the traffic officers do just as they please.

“They come to work when they feel like it and there is simply no one to reprimand them.”

According to Molao, his efforts at establishing order at the Randfontein Traffic Department was unsuccessful because of people working against him.

He adds that traffic officers hardly do their street visits and are often galavanting in the streets during working hours.

Asked whether these allegations are made because he is no longer part of the department, Molao says that he is only calling a spade a spade, adding  that he is happy to have left.

The Herald has contacted Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo who slammed these allegations and says that Molao is simply bitter because his contract has expired and was not renewed.

“There is simply no truth to these allegations and I think that Molao is bitter.

“Our traffic officers are constantly in the streets of Randfontein enforcing bylaws.

“I am in charge of them and I monitor their movements constantly.

“We are always busy with bylaw enforcement and have road blocks regularly.

“I don’t know what prompted this from him but I must say that I am disappointed,” says Mampondo.

He adds that  the department is busy short listing applicants for Molao’s vacant position and says that a director will be appointed soon.

  2. In light of the article referring to the Traffic Department. I arrived at 08:50 in the Spur parking lot and waited for a friend and happened to see 3 traffic officers in uniform leaving the Spur/
Panarotti’s at approximately 9:30 am (Wednesday 26th) Seems coincidental. This is not my complaint though, just an observation. My complaint is pathetic service.
The service I received at the licensing department last week was absolutely ridiculous to say the least. Why must our blood boil for absolutely no reason? Why are customers labelled as ‘difficult customers’ when we reflect the same attitude as the attitude shown by the staff. Friday afternoon and having all necessary documentation for 5 transactions. When I say ALL , it is as per detailed explanation from by the gentleman at enquiries on two occasions earlier in the week. On arrival, with no explanation or checking my documents, he referred me to Petronella. Same thing, had not even looked at one document and yelled that my husband had to do everything personally. Have you ever, ever heard such trash. I had permission, ID’s, signatures and even proof of residence, what more did i need? For my husband to hold my hand? The mere fact that both staff members did not even look at the papers in my hand and only assumed that I was a disgruntled woman selling my husband’s vehicles without his permission. By throwing this accusation I yelled back at her. She crossed her hands and left the counter. I was not prepared to leave it at that. I requested to see somebody in charge. The ladies directed me and had a good chuckle as I left. Once again angering me even more. They must have known that Bheki had left the building. On arriving at his office, the receptionist told me to wait. Closer to 3’oclock she called him, and he said that Petronella could help me. Well I charged back to them and asked to have my papers checked as no valid reason was given to why I could not have the transactions done. Closing doors at 3 on a Friday afternoon, I was not going anywhere. I asked for Petronella again and looking through my documents was a huge effort. Eventually 3 transactions were done which does not require the owner of the vehicle to personally present himself. The other counter refused to assist and questioned Petronella’s decision. The 5th transaction was clear – “your husband must do it himself” Law abiding citizens and this is what you get! Thanks for nothing. I have tried to reach Bheki in an attempt to lay a formal complaint with no avail. Bheki has my cell number and my husbands cell number and we are still waiting for him to call. I will have to wait at his office door until he makes an appearance….
