Man stabbed to death during fight

An eyewitness informed the police that the suspect had fled on foot after being chased by an angry crowd.

A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death during a fight in Mohlakeng on Maponya Street on 1 January.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Appel Ernst, police officers were called out to the scene and upon arrival, an eyewitness informed them that a fight had broken out earlier during the day and that the suspect who allegedly stabbed the deceased, had fled on foot after being chased by an angry crowd.

“The victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds and was declared dead,” says Ernst.

She adds that fortunately, the eyewitness was able to point the police in the right direction with regards to the suspect’s address where he was later found.

Police officers carried out an investigation which subsequently led to his arrest.

“Currently I can confirm that the suspect has appeared in court on a charge of murder.

“Anyone who might have witnessed the incident can contact the investigating officer into the case, Warrant Officer Santie le Roux on 011 278 8100,” says Ernst.
