Election campaign posters vandalised

Our posters are being destroyed in every street pole across Randfontein but only those of the ANC remain and I find this fishy.

The Congress of the people in Randfontein says that their election campaign posters are being stolen and vandalised in Randfontein.

According to Cope West Rand Region organiser, Nicodemus Phake, is adamant that they are being sabotaged by opposition parties, saying that this dirty politicking and intimidation

Phake has taken aim at the ANC, saying that ANC posters are the only ones that remain untouched on street poles throughout Randfontein.

“I find it fishy that only ANC posters are not being destroyed,” says Phake.

“Whichever political party is responsible for this must not think that CCope is not going to win the 2014 elections.

“These are clear signs that other political parties are threatened by Cope and its followers.

Meanwhile, the Herald has contacted the West Rand District Municipality spokesperson Dennis Mangope who is also part of the ANC’s election communications team in the West Rand, with regard to this issue.

According to Mangope, Phake needs to understand that the ANC is constantly encouraging people to have tolerance toward other parties.

“We don’t have the right to influence people on what to do and what not to do and we do not incite people to commit acts of vandalism,” says Mangope.

“Any proof that opposition parties might have with regards to this, should be reported to the police.

He adds that they believe in a free and fair election process.

Meanwhile, the leader of the DA Caucus in Randfontein Brian Blake says that they haven’t seen any of their campaign material being taken down or destroyed.

“I just believe that putting posters up on traffic lights is really obstructing traffic.

“Perhaps if they had put their material elsewhere either than on stop signs and traffic lights, then they wouldn’t have experienced any problems,” says Blake.
