A 31-year-old woman was raped after having a few drinks with her friend and the perpetrator on 20 September at approximately 9.50pm in Homelake.
According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the woman was visiting a friend at the time of the incident.
“Two men joined them while the victim and her friend were being social.
“They offered them some alcoholic drinks and they all drank together,” says Ernst.
She adds that after a while, the woman wanted to go home and one of the men offered to accompany her.
“While walking home, the suspect suddenly attacked the woman and pressed her to the ground.
“He continued to rape her for some time and later fled on foot,” says Ernst.
Fortunately, the woman was able to identify the suspect after reporting the matter.
Following an intense investigation, the police were able to locate the suspect and arrested him.
He appeared at the Randfonteni Magistrates’ Court on 23 September where his case was remanded.
