Another motorist has been hijacked after being pulled over by bogus traffic officers on 23 September.
This was on the Main Reef Road in Randfontein at approximately 12:30 am.
The man and his passengers where traveling to Protea when the bogus officers traveling behind them in a white VW Citi Golf flicked their lights, instructing them to stop.
The bogus officers were wearing reflective gear like that of the Metro Police.
According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, the four bogus traffic officers emerged from their vehicle and approached them on foot.
“They produced firearms and ordered them to cooperate.
“The men were blindfolded and driven to a deserted area in Kagiso where they were ditched,” says Ernst.
“The hijackers made off with their vehicle, a Kia mini truck with the registration number BY 58 KN GP.
They were able to flag down a police vehicle which took them to the Kagiso Police Station.
According to Ernst, such incidents are not a trend in Randfontein.
“I cannot say that such incidents are on the rise in Randfontein, but with the incidents that have occured, proper investigations are currently underway to establish this,” says Ernst.
The case is being investigated by the Vehicle Investigation Unit at the Protea Glen SAPS and anyone with any information with regard to the incident can contact the police on 011 231 9000
