Municipal watchdog to keep an eye on underperforming municipalities

It has become evident recently that service delivery is a big concern in South Africa.

Residents of Randfontein and Westonaria will now have a platform where they can voice their concerns with regards to service delivery issues without having to necessarily go through the line of Ward councilors first.

This comes after the establishment of the Municipal Watchdog committee which facilitates service delivery to the people.

This may come as a relief to residents especially in light of the recent string of service delivery protests in Randfontein and Westonaria

According to Adrian Maytom from the committee, he will be responsible for assisting residents of Randfontein, Krugersdorp and Roodepoort.

“It has become evident recently that service delivery is a big concern in South Africa.

“Service delivery is poor in communities and some residents don’t even have the basic facilities such as running water and electricity, which municipalities should be providing.

“That is why the Municipality Watchdog was started.

“The purpose of this watchdog is to keep a close eye on service delivery in local municipalities and to hold government accountable,” says Maytom.

He adds that the organisation would like to compile a report to see what the needs are in communities, and they will then present the report to government.

Residents can contact the Municipal Watchdog at info@municipality-watchdog.co.za or you can contact André Pieterse on 082 640 1051 and Adrian Maytom on 072 757 1983.
