Randfontein sergeant arrested for dealing in drugs

This follows an intense investigation by police members.

A Randfontein police sergeant together with two foreign nationals were arrested on 23 August for dealing in and being in possession of drugs.

The men in question were nabbed next to the Uncle Harry’s Road House at approximately 4pm.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, this follows an intense investigation by police members.

“Throughout the week in question an intelligence operation was conducted in Krugersdorp and Randfontein.

“During this time, two foreign nationals aged between 31 and 32 together with the sergeant were found in possession of drugs with an estimated value of R7 000.

“Officers also found a large amount of cash in their possession, which also was confiscated,” says Ernst.

She adds that the success was due to the cooperation between the Crime Intelligence and Protection Services head office and the West Rand Organised Crime Unit.

The sergeant and the two suspects appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on 26 August and their case was postponed.

According to Ernst, this shows that the police are working hard to eradicate criminal elements in communities and will even arrest one of their own should the need arise.
