Police to improve on reaction time

Following complaints from residents regarding police officers’ reaction time to emergency cases, the Randfontein SAPS propose that residents make use of their sector police’s contact details.

According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, this will improve officers’ reaction time drastically.

“It has come to our attention that residents often call the emergency number 112 when they are in need of police assistance.

“What residents don’t realise is that this causes delays in the reaction time as the call goes through to the call centre first.

“Only then it can be directed to the SAPS and reach any of the nine SAPS provincial offices before it gets directed to the local SAPS,” says Ernst.

To improve on reaction time, Ernst urges residents to know the sectors they reside in as well as the contact details for their sector police respectively.

Sector 1 consists of all the areas in Mohlakeng and residents can make use of 071 675 7099 in cases of emergency.

Sector 2 comprises areas such as Toekomsrus, the dumping site and Westergloor and residents of the area can contact 071 675 7039 in cases of emergency.

Residents who reside in Sector 3 (Randfontein Central Business District (CBD), Aureus, Hectorton, West Porges and Bhongweni) can contact 071 675 7095 and 071 675 7096.

People who reside in Greenhills, Randgate, Randpoort and Helikon Park (Sector 4) can contact 071 675 7095 and 071 675 7096.

Sector 5 consists of the agricultural holdings and residents can contact 071 675 7097.

“I cannot stress how important it is for residents to take note of these contact details,” says Ernst.
