Parents Against Drug Abuse holds another successful anti-drug campaign

There is still a long way to go before they can declare their community a drug-free area.

Parents Against Drug Abuse (Pada) hosted another anti-drug awareness campaign at the Randfontein Secondary School in Toekomsrus on 17 August.

This was to intensify their fight against drug abuse in the area and declare war against drug dealers.

According to one of the parents from Pada, their anti-drug campaigns have been a success until thus far.

“Despite the continuous struggle we face with illegal substance abuse in our community, we must admit that things are getting better.

“Through the campaign we have seen people turning their backs on drugs and that is exactly what we want to see.

“We want to see our children fight the scourge of these illegal substances and we want to see drug dealers rooted out of our communities.

“This might take us some time but slowly and surely we will get there,” says a parent.

She adds that since their last campaign numerous members of the community reach have come to them to quit drugs.

Pada is adamant that there is still a long way to go before they can declare their community a drug-free area.

They had international guest speaker Jan Eriksen, a former drug dealer and pimp, to address and motivate the community about the dangers of drugs.

He donated books for the community titled From pimp to preacher written by him.

The West Rand District Municipality Mayor Mpho Nawa also attended the event and gave a moving speech.
