Employee shot, customers held at gunpoint during Main Reef robbery

Latest crime statistics revealed a business robbery along Main Reef Road as well as a trespassing and theft incident in Aureus.

An employee was shot and customers were held at gunpoint during a vicious robbery at a business situated along Main Reef Road earlier this week.

According to Mapogo A Mathamaga’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen, the incident occurred just before midnight on August 28.

“An unknown number of robbers entered the business and pointed firearms at both employees and customers. One employee was shot in the knee while the robbers took R3 000 from the till before fleeing the scene. The injured employee was eventually transported to hospital for further medical care,” said Vermeulen.

In addition, Mapogo also responded to a trespassing and theft incident in Steyer Street, Aureus that same day.

“At about 04:58, criminals gained entry to the premises by jumping over the perimeter wall and then went on to steal four truck bumper brackets, which they had to throw over the wall. CCTV footage, monitored by Mapogo, captured their every move, and armed reaction officers were dispatched. The criminals fled the scene, however, the stolen items were recovered.”
